Disney’s Zombies

Disney’s “ZOMBIES” is a music- and dance-filled story set in the fictitious world of Seabrook, a cookie-cutter community brimming with perky conformity 50 years after a zombie apocalypse. Today, the zombies pose no threat, but are required to live in Zombietown, an isolated, rundown community infused with their unique creative spirit. When zombies are finally allowed to enroll in Seabrook High School, the charming, charismatic zombie Zed, who is determined to play football, meets freshman Addison who dreams of being a cheerleader — the ultimate form of status in Seabrook. Addison takes a lot of flak for befriending Zed and his zombie friends, but comes to learn that zombies and cheerleaders aren’t so different after all. Zed and Addison work together to show Seabrook what they can achieve when they embrace their differences and celebrate what makes them a community.

Host a Disney Zombies Movie Night

My family loved the film. It was so much fun to watch. Disney Channel did a great job of getting the message across about acceptance. I believe this message is so important for our youth to see nowadays. Although the film was about zombies being accepted into the school by regular kids, it set the stage for deeper conversations with your kids.

Addison is a regular teen going to high school that just wants to fit in and be accepted. She is not a zombie but she deals with being different in her own way, a difference she feels she needs to hide. She also learns that taking a stand for doing what is right is not always easy and you may lose friends over it. But believing in yourself and standing up for the right thing is always the best path.

Zombie Survival Guide to High School

I loved this guide on the bonus features. The actors walked you through various scenes from the film and shared their survival tips for high school students, for both zombies and regular kids.

Tip 1: Stay Calm

Don’t zombie out or freak out when something goes awry. Stay focused, keep calm and evaluate the situation. Do not overreact.

Tip 2: Stay Alert

Keep your head up and stay focused. From school work to extracurricular activities, staying alert is important for surviving high school.

Tip 3: Be a Team Player

Being a supportive friend is a great tip. Being a team player, even when not on a team, is an important life lesson that goes beyond high school.

Tip 4: Learn to Communicate

I really think learning to communicate effectively should be tip number one. It is the most important tip in my opinion. They play it up in a fun way where they show Addison trying to learn to speak zombie so she can show how much she cares.

Tip 5: Believe in Yourself

Look in the mirror and love what you see. Believe you can do it, believe you fit in as you are, believe you are enough. Those messages can never get old.

Tip 6: Don’t Be Afraid to Take a Stand

This one is a good tip but can be tough.  As parents, we should always encourage our kids to stand up for what is right, even when it is not popular.
