Disney’s Frozen Storybook iPad App

With Disney’s Frozen coming to theaters next week on November 27th we decided to do a little celebrating and playing with the new iPad apps.

Based on Disney’s animated-film Frozen (in theaters November 27), Frozen: Storybook Deluxe is designed to encourage beginning readers with various storytelling options: Read on your own, Record your own voice, and Listen to the narration with text. In an all-new feature, kids can flip their device upside-down to hear the Frozen story told by dueling sisters Anna and Elsa.

Additional features include:
Create and build frozen scenes and crystal palaces with your “ice craft” tools
Short clips from the actual film
Ice puzzles and games
Surprising and fun tappable activities

I love how the interactive story helps kids read along while listening.  Each word within the book highlights as the story is told through the character’s voice.  You can also record your own voice if your child would rather listen to you tell the story.  Noah and I had fun testing out that option.  With each new chapter or scene the story would come to life showing the characters moving around like a mini film.

The graphics on the app were beautiful and truly got us in the mood to see the movie next week.  I will admit after reading the full story it gave away spoilers for the movie but we are still excited to see it on the big screen at the theater.

You play the puzzle game backwards in a way.  Instead of fitting pieces together you remove them by matching the pieces to the ones shown on the side.  So you are hunting for the broken ice to clear the board and reveal the photo behind it.  There are several puzzles to play with each having a different scene from the movie.

One of my favorite parts of the app is making your own snowflakes and drawings.  You can select different tools to use, whether it’s the drawing tool, the icicles, the pre-made snowflakes or the swirls that Elsa makes in the movie.  After you finish your masterpiece you click a button and it saves to your camera roll on the iPad for easy sharing.

Noah made me several creations that I just love.  They make a fun background on the iPad for a winter screensaver.

The snow-globe is another interactive scene that you help create.  Before you launch the snow-globe you are given a clear space to draw.  The same tools are offered as mentioned above but once you finish with your drawing it becomes the background of the snow-globe and the characters ice skate or move around inside.  A mini skit plays within your snow-globe.  Noah and I had fun using the swirls to make his name for the backdrop.
