The Crazy Things We Do For Our Kids

|

This post is in partnership with Warner Bros. Pictures

As parents we have done some pretty crazy things to make our kid’s dreams come true. Watching my oldest daughter get excited over her favorite celebrity, author, or seeing a movie she has anticipated for months has always been priceless to me. When I was growing up I never got starstruck over anyone so witnessing her level of giddiness amuses me.

I stood in line for hours so she could meet the author of her favorite series.

My husband went to a public mall to have his makeup done as the Mad Hatter for our daughter’s Sweet 16 themed party. We were so busy decorating that we couldn’t go with him. Can you imagine him walking through the mall like this?

In theaters on June 30th, The House with Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler shows the lengths that parents will go to make their child’s dream come true.

After Scott and Kate Johansen lose their daughter Alex’s college fund, they become desperate to earn it back so she can pursue her dream of attending a university.  With the help of their neighbor Frank (Jason Mantzoukas), they decide to start an illegal casino in his house.

Have you seen the trailer for this hilarious movie?

So I may not have dressed up as mobsters and hosted a casino in my home, but I did wear colored contacts for the first time at a Vampire Ball for one of my daughter’s favorite movies.

We’ve done some crazy things for our kids and made lots of amazing memories in the process.

I cannot wait to take a night off from being mom and head to the theaters with my husband on June 30th to see The House. Join us in celebrating this film release and win a $50 Visa gift card to have a parent’s night out.

  9. I drive my 15 year old and 3 of her friends half way across the country to see Greenday in concert for the first time. They wanted to get in the Mosh Pit…. so in I went with them! MISTAKE!!!

  10. I really cant think of anything too crazy but I did try once to donate plasma to pay for Summer camp but that didn’t work out.

  11. I was the most supportive I could be with my kids to help them realize their goals; I did not do anything outrageous, just what I could at the time.

  12. I used to get pizza from two different places because my kids couldn’t agree about their favorite. It was easier than dealing with the bickering.

  13. I do not have kids, but my mom used to stand in negative 4 degree weather to watch my cross country ski races!

  14. My kids wanted to go to Space Camp but I did not have any money for this, so I got a job standing out in front of a store letting know that this big store was going out of business and to go shop at their sales. I had a big board to carry around and it was cold outside. I made enough money to send my kids to Space Camp!

  15. Teach 7th grade Sunday school is one of the craziest things I did!!…that was a long year but my kids still remember it and what they learned

  16. As a single parent I worked a factory job that I did not like at all.
To pay the rent and have food on our table.
    thank you

  17. When my 3-year-old was pretending to be a doggie All The Time, I put her food in puppy bowls on the kitchen floor to eat, so at least she’d eat something.

  18. I let my daughter do my make up and let my sons pick out my outfit and do my hair. Nothing like having your hair styled by a Ninja Turtle toy!

  19. The craziest thing I have ever done is start dancing in the store to have fun with my girls. Thank you

  20. I’ve dressed up in a cindrella dress because my daughter is a princess and was having “princess tea meetings” lol never again lol

  21. We don’t have any children but I have seen some parents go way overboard for their kids and I don’t always agree with that.

  22. A tween’s dream outfit she wanted to sew, teaching her, but ended up too hard. A secret “elf” would come out every night and rip out the seams with mistakes and put it together just right. She never figured it out!

  23. My son’s first birthday we went a little overboard and bought toys he couldn’t even play with yet.

  24. The craziest thing I’ve done for my daughter was help her sell gift wrap paper as a school fundraiser to our entire neighborhood. We knocked on all of our neighbor’s doors and sold quite a bit!

  25. I enrolled my son in drum lessons way too early because he seemed to have an interest at a very young age. It kind of back-fired and he got tired of them, so we decided to back off on the lessons.

Thanks for the chance to win!

  26. I sent my son across the world to study last semester in Seville, Spain. He had the best time of his life.

  27. I think the craziest thing I’ve done so far for my daughter is get old picture frames, paint them and put pictures in them of places we’ve been as a family. It doesn’t sound that crazy but it was a ton of frames and I’m the least crafty person in the world so there were several “fails” along the way. I have a feeling the older she gets the more crazy things I will do!

  28. In the past I have gone a little overboard during school fundraiser time, making a pest of myself with family, friends and neighbors.

  29. I bought a very expensive paint job for my son for his 72 Nova when he was only 15 years old.

  30. I took my son to a Jonas Brother’s concert in Cincinnati, it’s over 2 and 1/2 hrs away from home. We get there and it’s too hot and crazy for him to handle. Poor little guy I didn’t think to pack ear protection for him. We didn’t even get to hear the first song. I’ve learned to take ear plugs to anything thing we attend with him.

  31. I don’t think I’ve done anything crazy but I watch other parents do stuff to try and be the “cool mom”.

  32. Ugh you know the parents that have camped outside a store just to get a newly released toy, yep! That was me 🙂

  33. Ugh you know the parents that have camped outside a store just to get a newly released toy, yep! That was me 🙂

  34. I don’t have any kids, although I have half interest in my nephews. The craziest thing I’ve done was bribing one of them with the latest South Park DVD for getting all As on his report card. Crazy as it sounds, it worked. I think he ended up with the entire series over the course of his school years. He’s long since graduated, turned out to be a fine upstanding young man and has a family of his own now.

  35. One of the craziest things I’ve done for my kids is homeschooling them in the early grades to give them the best start I could.

  36. I took my son out for a surprise lunch with all his nurses from his heart transplant it was so much fun.

  37. A few years back my daughters and I went on a cruise to the western Carribean. We had an excursion in Grand Caymen of kiyacking (sp) and zip lining. I’m afraid of heights and didn’t want to zip line but my youngest daughter had her heart set on it. I thought it would probably be a zip line set up the height of s telephone pole angled down to the ground. The thought of it made me sickish but the thought of being in a foreign country and them out of my sight was NOT going to happen. The zip lining ended up being in a rain forest way above the river we were to kayak in. There were platforms built on each side of the river making a zig zag over the river for a very long way. I almost died when I realized what I had gotten myself into. The young guys that were our guides were wonderful but had to literally push me off the platform to go across the river way way up in the air and I had my eyes closed the entire time screaming and when I got to the other side they would catch me saying Mama Mia wasn’t that fun. I wouldn’t traid anything for that time with my girls but that experience still makes me catch my breath.

  38. The only thing I can think of is spending 30 of 48 hours one weekend on a softball field. It made for a very long but fun weekend. Thank you!

  39. We supported her in her decision to go to a college far, far away ad made many cross country trips to see her.

  40. I’ve really not done anything crazy (yet) but tomorrow I am taking (my son and 4 friends) 5 eleven year old boys and my 7 year old daughter to Great Wolf Lodge for the night. It will be a birthday my son will not forget!

  41. Lines in stores trying to get what they want or waiting to make sure can preorder or whatever it is. They’re good kids they don’t make nothing really hard. Other kids seem to like them so they don’t have problems on the bus or anything. #blessed

  42. I got up one Black Friday morning at 3 am to wait in line for a video game my son really wanted.

  43. This is great. Two years ago I made an emergency flight to where my daughter was with her field trip out of state, she had told me one particular person was bothering her. It’s safe to say I scared the living hell out of the little girl that was doing it and made a scene. I can’t tolerate behavior like that!

  44. Every year my 2 youngest worked at a local haunted house… I was always doing makeup or sewing up a new costume at the very last minute.

  45. The craziest thing I did was give my consent to my 16 year old to have her navel pierced. Gross! but she loves it.

  46. I moved to a different town when my son became a Freshman in school because the school he was at didn’t offer Cross Country or Track. We moved so he could participate in those sports at a different school. Thanks.

  47. It’s not a big crazy thing, but when my son was younger, he had a favorite blanket. He was at a friend’s house and he forgot it at home. I went at 2 in the morning to bring it because he couldn’t sleep without it.

  48. I don’t have kids but my dad once dressed up in my high school’s colors and painted his face (like fans do at pro football events) and cheered really loudly for me during a football game. Also, I don’t play football, I’m in the band. hehe.

  49. Hmmm, this is a tough one, I”m not sure I’d consider anything I’ve done to be crazy, but maybe the time I drove 45 minutes away on a rainy day to be where a radio station was giving away local amusement park tickets at 8am a little crazy. It sure wasn’t fun, but there were only a total of three people that showed up that morning is what the lady on the phone told me when I won. I was so happy to be able to tell my kids we won.

  50. I’ve taken my daughter to Vans Warped tour for 4 years in a row and arrived at 6 am to wait in line.

  51. I was really broke for my son’s 8th birthday and he is totally lego obsessed so I entered every single lego batman giveaway I could find, every day, I can’t even imagine how many – and I won!! He got to see a screening a week before most other kid’s in the country (elementary school bragging rights!!) A super sweet lady saw one of my comments and even sent me 2 extra passes (I could not go unfortunatly due to illness so we did not use those 🙁

Anyway he was super excited but now expects passes for EVERY lego movie, and as a bonus I got addicted to sweeps!

  52. I don’t think I’ve done anything too crazy but I’ve spent a crazy amount of time driving my kids to martial arts for years!

  53. Our local hockey team’s mascot was supposed to visit my son’s school. The guy who played the mascot was sick so I substituted. Skyler did not know it was me until years later. Since the mascot was always silent, I did not have to talk. It was fun, but not something I would choose to do. It is hot in that suit, even with air conditioning!

  54. The craziest thing I’ve ever done was dress up as a clown for her bday when I couldn’t find anybody else last minute.

  55. I don’t have any kids yet, so I haven’t done anything crazy. The craziest thing I do for my fur baby is paint her toenails. lol.

  58. Hmmm, crazy? I let my daughter harvest all the beets this spring. It was cute watching her run out, and pull the beets out of the ground with two hands. She was really excited, especially after I peeled them and made a finger food platter.

  59. The craziest thing we did was when our daughter sprung a school project on us late one evening when she needed chicken feathers. We were going from farm to farm in the dark trying to find one that raised chickens.

  60. When my daughter was about 2 years old, I went way overboard buying her gifts for her stocking. We had a giant door-sized stocking that was overflowing with gifts. I had to scale way back in future years so she didn’t think that was the norm!

  61. I have twins and when they turned 8 we had a Mega-sleepover with 8 additional kids. I don’t know what I was thinking, but everyone had a great time and I lived to tell about it.

For her birthday one year we paid for our friends to come visit us from another state. We’ve also taken one of her friends on a road trip that lasted several weeks. Maybe that’s crazy.

  63. I can’t think of anything I would call crazy although since everyone says I am way over protective I am sure some of the things I have done others would say was crazy.

  64. I dressed like a troll and walked around town with my kids and it wasn’t Halloween, good times. LOL!

  65. Years ago there was a Worlds Fair in New Orleans and I took not only my daughter but 2 of her friends (3 13 yr olds!). It was fun and exhausting and I finally put my foot down to have a decent meal someplace rather than McDonald’s!!

  66. Took her to see Justin Bieber for her 6th birthday. Omg I had a headache for
Days lol the place was packed but she will never forget it

  67. My crazy for my kids: I volunteered for the dunking booth for their school’s annual fundraising carnival…the past three years !

  68. I waited in a seriously long line for almost a whole day in order to get special tickets to surprise her! Thanks so much for the chances to win.

  70. I jumped the security fence at a WWE show just to get my son Randy Orton’s autograph. It was my son’s birthday and I didn’t pay 28.00 for a picture of him. My son was sooooo embarrassed while I was doing it but loves to tell people about it now

  71. I have ridden on a roller coaster and a steep downhill ride and suffer from anxiety! That is love!

  72. One time I drove about 4 hours to pick up my son from his friends aunt’s house. He wanted to go with them but then was homesick so I spent Thanksgiving driving.

  73. I think parenting in general is crazy because you FDP just about everything strange to make your child happy. I saw three hours of PJ masks today!

  74. My daughter was petrified over starting in a new school, so I took her there after hours and showed her where all her classrooms would be so she’d at least know where she was going.
